The S.P.F. Fashion Show on May 15th was a glamorous night filled with an bevy of beautiful models styled by some of Charleston’s taste makers.  The event at The Spa at Belmond Charleston Place helped benefit the MUSC Foundation for skin cancer research.  Charleston based marketing firm Leapfrog PR organized and brought together an eclectic mix of bloggers, stylists, clothing designers, a jewelry designer, and store owner to style two models for their perfect poolside looks.  The local creatives included Amanda Greeley of Tink + Tiger,  Ayoka Lucas of StylePublic, Chassity Evans of Look Linger Love, Deirdre Zahl of Candy Shop Vintage, George Ackerman of 79 Ashley, Lauren Lail of Library by Lauren Lail, Lindsey Carter of Troubadour Clothing, Olivia Brock of Lacquered Life, and Stacy Smallwood of Hampden Clothing.  Beauty expert Ashley Brooke Perryman and her talented team tailored each outfit with the perfect hair and makeup look.

The inspiration for my models was a tribal, global theme.  My lovely model Chelsea wore a bikini from Everything But Water, body chain by Birdsong, headdress by Erika Pena Designs; Zach wore a retro tropical look from Tommy Bahama and necklace by Twine and Twig from The Finicky Filly.  I wore a flowy dress by Pink Stitch from House of Sage and body chain by Birdsong.

The world renown street artist Shepard Fairey, came back to his hometown this spring to showcase his eye-popping murals all over town.  The Charleston native kicks off the Spoleto Festival with his opening at the Halsey Institute tonight.  His series of work titled “Power and Glory” symbolizes his recurrent theme of social and political propaganda that’s apparent in America.  His large scale murals that are normally seen in bigger cities throughout the U.S. and overseas can now be viewed all over all over downtown Charleston.  His bold graphic designs in red, black and white are iconic and always delivers a thought provoking message.  We are so lucky to have this talented home grown artist come back to his roots and grace us with his beautiful display of street art.

Ibu, the textile, clothing, and accessory line based in Charleston, is making a global change, one village at a time.  Ibu, which translates to “A woman of respect”, was started by Susan Hull Walker 4 years ago with a idea to preserve and promote handmade product made by women all over the world.  Her background as a minister and weaver plays an influential role in her process when she works with women’s cooperatives.  Susan’s travels through Africa, Asia, India, and South America have enabled her to source beautiful fabric and products that anyone can appreciate.
