The Fall Showcase of art and jewelry last Friday night at Candy Shop Vintage was a hit! Deirdre Zahl’s Cannon Street boutique which is usually stocked full of her designed jewelry mixed with her vintage finds, was accompanied by artwork by Sissy Art, embroidered cocktail napkins by Lettermade, and fashion illustrations by Daniel Velasco for the Friday night festivities. As guests sipped cocktails and noshed on cupcakes by Sugar, they patiently waited to get their portrait painted by Daniel Velasco. It was exciting to see the process as Daniel quickly sketched his subjects and added his watercolor for a whimsy work of art. If you couldn’t make it to the fun event, you can still shop the fall showcase featuring art, accessories, and my custom greeting cards with Daniel Velasco here. Sale ends at midnight 10/4/15

For my second collaboration with The Scout Guide Charleston I’m featuring some fall fashion that can be found in Kiawah’s premiere shopping destination – The Freshfields Village. Packed with a good mix of locally owned boutiques and larger retailers, this shopping village is set in the most relaxing, stress-free environment. With pristine beaches just around the corner, it’s easy to make a day out of swimming in the ocean, shopping, and dining.
For my Freshfields shoot I had the pleasure of working with Chelsea Hodges at Urban Nirvana to help get me ready. Having a professional hair and makeup artist is always a luxury I can appreciate.
Lounging at the Andell Inn was the ideal setting for my favorite caftan from Roberta Roller Rabbit. This boutique is new to Freshfields, but a familiar shopping stop in resort towns such as The Hamptons, Palm Beach, Punta Del Este in Uruguay, and of course King Street in Charleston. This bright and cheerful store packs a punch with color and patterns encompassing textiles, clothing, accessories, and bedding. Roberta Freyman, the designer and founder of Roberta Roller Rabbit, travels the globe to find the perfect products to take home to her boutiques.
Long Meena Kurta Pool Caftan $155, Jabo Tribal Cord necklace $75, Lute envelop clutch in teal $95 Indian wedding bracelets $1 a piece from Roberta Roller Rabbit // Paloma flats $215 by Fortress of Inca
For a dressier look, I featured this LBD with a fun fringe detail from The Resort Shop and Alexis Bittar accessories from Holly & Brooks. They’re both locally owned boutiques that compliment each other very well. The Resort Shop has always been a fixture at The Freshfields Village and recently opened up their second location in The Shops at Belmond Charleston Place. Don’t be fooled by their name, their clothing and accessories are more than just resort wear. Stocking favorite labels such as Mara Hoffman, Ella Moss, Eileen Fisher, and Trina Turk, the variety of styles will take you well into the fall and winter months.
Rebecca Taylor fringe dress $295, Trina Turk clutch $228 from The Resort Shop // Vince Camuto black Carlotte heels $129, Alexis Bittar baguette clustered 3 piece bronze bib necklace $295, Alexis Bittar encrusted pike hinged bracelet bronze black bangle $245, Alexis Bittar crystal deco marquis studded baguette barrel hinge bracelet $245, Alexis Bittar baguette hinged clear crystal bangle bracelet $195 from Holly & Brooks

The saying “It takes a village” can certainly apply to all my photo shoots. From blog shoots to styling models for other clients it takes a very talented, organized, and creative team to pull it all together. One of my favorite photographers that I have the pleasure of working with on the regular is Clifford Pate and the man does not skip a beat when capturing every element of our shoots. Beauty expert Kalena Doo from Stella Nova West Ashley ran with the direction I gave her for a 20’s inspired hair and makeup. Achieving a faux bob is not an easy task and she made it look effortless. I am so grateful for my style assistants who help me pull it all together like Jonatan Guerrero who was on set for the Spectator shoot. From schlepping clothes around town, setting up on location, tapping up all the shoes, writing the credits, and packing it all up at the end of the day to ensure it gets returned to the stores safe and sound, this task keeps them on their toes.
The concept of every shoot can be inspired by a dress, a shoe, a movie, makeup, hairstyle or a location like the beautiful The Spectator Hotel featured here. The speakeasy inspired decor of the hotel designed by Jenny Keenan has hints of art deco design with a modern flair. The very accommodating staff were there at every moment catering to our needs with a smile. Charleston’s hotel scene is exploding and The Spectator is a great addition that stands out in every way. Just blocks away from the bustling Market Street, the hotel is an calming oasis that makes you feel at home.
