With Thanksgiving around the corner comfort is on everyone’s mind. But then again, comfort food is always on my mind all year round. The Barony Tavern located in the The Renaissance Hotel was the perfect setting for a fall photoshoot and I jumped at the chance to sample their mouthwatering menu. The hunting lodge meets gentleman’s club decor made for a rustic chic combo that was warm and inviting.
Chef Robert Carter, formerly of Peninsula Grill, is at the helm at this tasty tavern which opened in March. I invited my good friend Amanda Gosnell with me to sample some dishes and we went for it! With a variety on their lunch menu that could satisfy even the pickiest eater, I knew we couldn’t go wrong. I never met a fry I didn’t like so we started out with a plate of french fries to dip into pimento cheese and an herb dipping sauce that hit the spot.
To balance out the fries we had the Toasted Farro Salad with oven dried grapes, baby kale, feta, pistachios, and red wine vinaigrette. This was a meal in itself and is a kale lovers dream with hints of sweetness from the dried grapes. Whenever I see ravioli on the menu I have to order it, and I’m so glad I ordered the Butternut Squash Ravioli. On a bed of sauteed spinach with local shrimp, bacon, heirloom tomatoes, cooked with brown butter, this sharing plate was hard to share.
Amanda ordered the Market Fish with local vegetable medley in a tomato-sweet onion broth which was both healthy and filling. My photographer Clifford Pate dived into the Barony Burger which looked pretty solid with aged cheddar, fried onions, bacon, green goddess aioli on a brioche bun. For those burger aficionados out there, I would say that this should be on your burger bucket list.
The Barony Tavern is definitely a place I would come back to for lunch, brunch, and I’m looking forward to eating Grandma’s Fried Chicken Supper on Sundays with the all the fixins’.

Myrtle Beach based jewelry designer Ash Hoffman is a force of nature. I first met her at the Style Lounge at Charleston Fashion Week 2 years ago and we became instant friends. Always on the hunt for up and coming talent I stumbled upon her showcase of amazing designs and knew we should collaborate together. Ash Hoffman is my go to girl when I want to pull both delicate layering pieces and statement jewelry. She even redesigned my wedding rings turning 3 rings into 6 works of art!
Ash Hoffman’s love of travel, organic shapes, natural materials, and heartfelt sentiments inspire each piece she designs. Her journey as a jewelry designer started in Uganda where she bought some native jewelry and deconstructed it. From there she wanted to learn more about the process of jewelry making and went to school in south Florida to develop her skills. 5 years later and Ash Hoffman has developed a brand that’s distinct with her aesthetic “Bohemian Bling”. Recently she won Jtv’s 1st jewelry reality competition called Rockstar Designer proving that her designs have mass appeal. Whether it’s a custom made commission or a popular design she’s made for her website, Ash puts her heart and soul into each piece to make it one of a kind.

Part 2 of my Scout Guide Charleston collaboration with Freshfields Village is all about what to wear in Charleston fall weather. While most of the country might be wearing sweaters and coats, our temperature is in limbo. An easy way to transition into the next season is a printed dress like this one by Ella Moss from The Resort Shop and a pair of Stuart Weitzman over the knee boots from Holly & Brooks.
Delicate jewelry from Urban Nirvana is a year round necessity.
Jungle Floral Flutter dress by Ella Moss $198 from The Resort Shop // “Mane” over the knees suede stretch boots by Stuart Weitzman $698 from Holly & Brooks // Gold and Gray Mystic Labradorite with Mini Gold Filled Skull necklace $110, Gold and Gray Mini Gold Shark Tooth necklace $99, Roost Heirloom Brass Bangles $45 each, Monserat De Lucca Cava Tote in Champagne $250 from Urban Nirvana // Sunglasses by Lunettes Kollektion $233.40 from Ombra Moderno
Stay tuned as I take over the Freshfields Village Instagram on Dec. 1st. It will be a fun-filled day of scouting all the shops for gift ideas for the whole family. I can’t wait to see what these Kiawah boutiques have in store!
