In just a few days is The Charleston Wine and Food Fest, a celebration of the culinary scene here and beyond. With cooking demos to extravagant soirees all over town, this is a foodie paradise. My fellow blogger Venita Aspen and I wanted to highlight some of the participants who work tirelessly in their field to give us the best dining and drinking experience that Charleston is known for. These people are usually seen and photographed in their apron, chef jacket, crocs, and the women with their hair pulled back. We wanted to work with these participants and enhance their already great style. Cannon Green graciously let us shoot in their beautiful restaurant and we ended up having a fun day of fashion and made some new friends.
Carrie Morey of Callie’s Biscuits is pretty much a household name in Charleston. Her buttery biscuits are sold nationwide in most major grocery stores and even in the Caribbean. With the best media coverage you could ask for – NBC Today Show, The Martha Stewart Show, Saveur, Food & Wine, Southern Living, The New York Times, The Food Network, and even Oprah has been loving on her southern staple. If you want a piece of Callie’s to go with toppings that change daily, then Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit on Upper King is biscuit heaven.

Locally fueled couple Jordan Amaker and Marcus Amaker are the subject of today’s beautifully staged wedding reception at Holy City Brewing Company. They officially tied the knot last year, but happily obliged when I approached them about posing for my shoot with event planners The Event Cooperative.
Marcus Amaker, local renaissance man about town is a creative jack of all trades. Yes, Marcus does it all from graphic/web design, videography, music, and most famously known for his poetry and spoken word. This is what sparked Jordan’s attraction, and she says the rest is history. Jordan Amaker is the Director of Marketing and Communications for Lowcountry Local First, a Charleston based organization that advocates locally owned businesses. Both are very invested in their local community and each other of course.
The beautiful wedding design and floral arrangements were by Maryann Hoyt and Madison Weissinger assisted by Courtney Habberstad of The Event Cooperative. No soiree is too big or small for this boutique event planning company whose clientele includes Charleston Magazine, Charleston Fashion Week, Belk, Kulture Klash, and countless weddings. Their vision of a rustic wedding set in the Holy City Brewing Company came to life seamlessly and their table settings and floral design were magical.
Jordan wears a dress by Lazaro and bracelet from Gown Boutique Charleston, earrings by Lulu Frost and sapphire and diamond ring from Croghan’s Jewel Box. Marcus wears clothing from Worn, pocket square and bowtie by Brinko Ties.

A couple of weeks ago I met up with some of my favorite girls – fellow blogger Venita Aspen, Holly McGetrick of Dandy Boutique, and photographer Libby Williams for some sushi and cocktails at O-Ku. O-Ku is one of those see and be seen hotspots on Upper King, but what us ladies were really interested in was trying out the exotic rolls and delectable plates.

Of course we had to start out with the Tempura Oysters which were out of this world! The fluffy fried oysters were topped with a Kimchee tartar sauce and microgreens that melted in my mouth. One sharing plate wasn’t enough so we had to order another one.
Fruity cocktails are always the way to go, especially when when there’s real fruit in there. My strawberry lemonade concoction with mint leaves was so sweet and refreshing.
The assortment of sushi can be overwhelming when you look at the menu. Asking the server what to order is always the best solution. Some of the highlights were FIRECRACKER ROLL with Crab salad, avocado, asparagus, tempura fried and topped with spicy fish, serrano pepper, eel sauce, the POTATO ROLL with Tempura shrimp, avocado, wrapped with fried shoe-string potatoes, eel sauce, sweet chili mango, and the BLACK DRAGON ROLL with Eel and avocado wrapped, with spicy fish, cucumber, avocado, eel sauce, spicy aioli.
I’m all about presentation and with sushi it’s a work of art. O-Ku pays attention to every little detail and the service was fantastic. I would definitely go back for date night or happy hour again with my girls. If you want to salivate more over the food we ate, view more.

I’m very excited to announce that I’m partnering up with Zero George for an exclusive shopping package for their guests. Recently Charleston was named one of the best shopping cities in the world by Conde Nast Traveler readers, and I’m here to share all my favorite local boutiques. Whether they’re looking for clothing, accessories, home decor, antiques, or mementos that are signature Charleston to remember their magical stay, I’ll be there to give them an insider’s tour. After 11 years of living in Charleston as a former boutique owner, Costume Shopper for Army Wives, and Freelance Stylist, I’ve been watching the retail landscape grow and thrive. As a blogger that focuses on local businesses it’s my job to keep current with every new store that pops up both big and small.
After a few hours of shopping to our hearts content the guests can come back to Zero George to relax and enjoy complimentary wine and cheese on the veranda. As part of the shopping package guests can keep a candle from Candlefish, one of my personal favorite shops that also offers candle making classes.
Zero George is Charleston’s most charming boutique hotel that caters to their guests in a very personalized way. When you step onto the property you feel like you discovered a secret gem and your whisked away into a romantic environment of pure southern charm. The buildings were built in the early 1800’s and offer all the modern luxuries you could dream of. All of the guest rooms feature original architectural elements including heart pine floors, high ceilings, period millwork details and classic piazzas.
I’m so looking forward to working with Zero George and their guests on these shopping excursions. I truly believe that the shopping in Charleston is part of the rich history and culture, and sharing that with visitors will be the ultimate experience.
