I can’t believe that January is almost over, which means that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. There’s so many gift ideas out there to hint at your man or Charleston shops to get decked out for a date night.
This retro inspired dress from Maris DeHart is perfection. The beaded earrings are also from Maris DeHart and are handcrafted by a new Charleston based jewelry brand called Lina Rosa. I love the tiny details, pop of color, and modern design of each earring. I heard it takes several hours to make and I can appreciate the beautiful quality. Taxidermy has been getting very experimental with their bags, and this new design is pretty stellar!
If you really want to hint at a splurge of a gift then Gold Creations has those stunner rings. This green amethyst and diamond ring is dazzling with it’s unique design. I always love going in there to drool and try on all the statement cocktail rings.
Stay tuned for more gift ideas on blog for both you and your hunny!

I’m always on the hunt for the best veggie burger in town and I was so excited to try Hom’s on my 1st foodie adventure in 2017 with Plate South. Hom is definitely known for their mouth watering burgers topped with unconventional toppings and remixes like the Pizza Burger. I don’t do beef so I opted for the Earth Ultra made with quinoa, tempeh, peanuts, beets, carrots, onions topped with tomato jam and truffled vinaigrette arugula. This burger was beet heavy, which I love and so different than any other veggie burger I’ve tried.
And for those sweet potato fry lovers out there, this one will blow your mind! Topped with roasted garlic, herb aioli and blue cheese, these were some of the most decadent fries I’ve ever had. They made it to my top 5 fries I’ve tasted in my life – true story.
If your into tater tots like I am, then you’ll love their homemade ones with with fresh herbs, melted parmesan and truffled aioli. Yes, this is not your average school cafeteria fare.
I love Hom’s laid back atmosphere, and the fact that you can play ping pong while you wait for your food is always a bonus. Hom has become a staple in the Upper King foodie district and now I know why. I can’t wait to come back and try their Falafel burger!

Im excited to share that next week we will be experiencing our 1st annual Charleston Wedding Week™ Presented by Diamonds Direct. It will be an industry event celebrating all things weddings, since of course we’re one of the top destinations in the U.S. to get married. There will be plenty of opportunities to hob knob with industry leaders at daytime workshops, as well as book signings, brunches, dinners and night time fashion shows. You can view the full schedule and purchase ticket here. The week would not be complete without a couple of fabulous runway shows starting with “The Evening at The Gibbes” next Tuesday which will showcase local bridal boutiques and designers including Betty Bridal Atelier, Lovely, Maddison Row, Bella Bridesmaids, Modern Trousseau Charleston, White on Daniel Island, and installation by Southern Protocol Bridal.
Another outstanding event at Charleston Wedding Week will be the cocktail party with designer Lela Rose and her runway show at The Dewberry on Thursday, January 26th. Her red carpet ready looks have been seen on Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Chastain, Selena Gomez, Uma Thurman, and Jessica Alba just to name a few.
At Southern Protocol each unique gown combines tradition with a contemporary twist. They carry an exquisite selection of dresses from local designer Kate McDonald, Nicole Miller, Ivy & Aster, Heidi Elnora, and Carol Hannah. I’m excited to share that I’m participating in a very special fundraising event benefitting The American Lung Association. The event is called Lip Sync for Lungs, and I’ll be battling it out on stage with 5 other contestants at the American Theater on January 25th at 7pm. The other contestants will be Lance Oliver Attorney at Motley Rice, Josef Kirk Myers, of That Level, Noel Richardson of Lava Salon, Femi Oyediran sommelier at Belmond Charleston Place, and Denise Holtz of Keller Williams Realty. Our special hosts will be Geoff Richardson of
Lava Salon, Michele Seekings of Spire Art Services, and musician Laura Alward Ball with celebrity judges The Cocktail Bandits, Mike Seekings, and Blair Barna
of Charleston City Paper.
This cause is near and dear to my heart because mother died of lung cancer at the young age of 44 and never smoked a day in her life. Being a part of this event and spreading the word on this great cause is so important to me. You can help raise money by voting for me here before the event and your donations will benefit The American Lung Association. They are the leading organization helping to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through education, advocacy and research. By donating as little as $10 you can help improve the lives of children who have asthma, tobacco education in schools, and local coalitions on lung health, air quality, and tobacco policies.
Everyone’s performance is top secret including mine, but I’ll give you a couple of clues. I’m going to be a music and fashion icon that has inspired people for over 3 decades. You can purchase your tickets here, but don’t wait, I heard they’re selling quickly. Your ticket will also get you into the official after party at Prohibition where you can dance to an 80’s and 90’s mix by DJ Tanlines. I hope to see you there!

January is in full swing and thankfully there’s lots of clothing options at Maris DeHart to keep you looking cool through the cold and warm winter months. This pom pom sweater is the cutest and at $68 you can’t go wrong! These ultra suede leggings are probably the softest pants I’ve ever worn.
The easiest way to pop your wardrobe is with key accessories. I’m loving this python varsity jacket, wedge sneakers and bag from by Taxidermy which you can find at their pop-up shop at 32 Vendue Range. Quay is hands down one of my favorite sunglass brands and now you can shop them at Maris DeHart right next to Taxidermy. The ring and earrings are by Naked Eyes, a local Charleston jewelry brand made by the talented couple Emily Hill and Alex Kael. I’m so happy they’re are also a part of the Curator Covets collection I’m collaborating with at Maris DeHart benefitting the Lowcountry Orphan Relief. Right before my holiday break I was fortunate enough to host a special dinner of The Feast of Seven Fishes at Vincent Chicco’s. Located on one of the most romantic streets of Charleston – Hutson Alley, this Italian restaurant is both grand and intimate. The perfect place for both a group dinner and date night with your hunny.
Before my feast with friends I had to swing by Dandy Boutique to see what new goodies Holly had stocked her shop with. I’m so glad I did because I found this cute maxi dress for only $72! The sunglasses and hat from there were the perfect 70’s accent to this dress. I can always count on Dandy for the coolest, most affordable sunnies for under $30. They’re located on John St. just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Vincent Chicco’s.
It might not be brunch time, but Candy Shop Vintage is serving breakfast all day with these Croissant earrings. Deirdre Zahl, the designer of Candy Shop Vintage recently launched her Cafe Collection complete with a Croissant choker, poodle and perfume charms on earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. If your looking for vintage jewelry or retro inspired accessories, then you’ll have to visit her shop on Cannon Street in the Cannonborough area.
Being half Italian American I knew about eating fish for Christmas Eve dinner, but this 7 course seafood feast was on another level. I was joined by Plate South, The Cocktail Bandits, Holy City Handcraft, Charleston Foodie Babes, Charleston Blonde, Southern Meets Chic, and Venita Aspen for a stretchy pants approved food fest. The first dish, and one of my favorites was the Bacalao. It was the perfect blend of textures with the crispy fried salted cod sitting on potatoes stewed in tomato sauce.
As each course came out executive chef Aaron Lemieux came out to explain in great detail every dish, giving us a greater appreciation what we were devouring. The Calamari Fritti was my other favorite with the lemon garlic aioli, roasted peppers, and balsamic tomatoes. This was a Calamari dish I was glad I didn’t have to share.
After the 5th course I was pretty stuffed, but I had to save room for dessert which was the perfect size for me. The Sfogliatelle was a ricotta and hazelnut stuffed pastry sprinkled with powdered sugar. And that chocolate sauce on the side was the perfect amount to dip it in.
It was a fun night catching up with old friends and making new ones at Vincent Chicco’s. Now I’m looking forward to getting back there soon so I can try some of their homemade pastas!

2017 is here and there’s so much to look forward to. Living in a city like Charleston where there’s constant change means that there’s more opportunities for local businesses to grow and southern designers to be featured in local shops. My latest purchases from House of Sage like this moto jacket and jeans by Ellison will easily take me from this southern winter to spring seamlessly. Both of them together cost under $150, not bad at all!
Emerging southern designers are abound at Maris DeHart where beautifully handcrafted products can rival any mass manufactured accessory. Myrtle Beach based jewelry designer Ash Hoffman pumps out one a kind bohemian bling like this cuff and rings. Savannah based accessory designer Ellia Wang makes thoughtful modern bags and jewelry like this leather clutch. Her innovative prints on suede will stop you in your tracks and this new design is no exception. Both designers are also a part of the Curator Covets collection I’m collaborating with at Maris DeHart benefitting the Lowcountry Orphan Relief. To learn more check out my previous blog post here.
