The Curated Guide to Cuba

Imagine a place stuck in the past, but yet striving to for a progressive future.  A place so vibrant in music, art, food, culture, color, and architecture that has inspired people all over the world.  People who have gone through so much, mostly living in poverty, yet are the happiest people in the world and want to give you everything.  This place is Cuba, and it stole my heart.

My husband wanted to get away and enjoy some culture and we always gravitate towards Latin countries.  Let’s face it, they have some of the best food and know how to have a great time.  With tickets on JetBlue for only $275 RT and an hour flight from Ft. Lauderdale it was a no brainer.  I had to put together a guide to Cuba because I want to share my experience and encourage people to go there and visit.  Out of all of the places I’ve been to in in the world including Asia, Europe, and South America, this is on my top 5 places I’ve ever visited.

I am encouraging everyone to go visit Cuba before the looming travel ban goes into effect.  It’s too close not to go, and when you get there you’ll feel like your a world’s away.  Perfect for a romantic getaway, family trip, or a girls weekend away, your guaranteed to have a great time.  I’m looking forward to going back with my kids so they can experience it and come back with a new perspective on life.

Girls Night Out at The Skinny Dip

Get ready for the ultimate Girls’ Night out at The Skinny Dip on July 27th featuring a braid bar by Drybar, manis by Mylk Bar, bites from Callie’s Little Hot Biscuit & Carmella’s Dessert Bar, drinks by Rudi’s Cafe & Vino, and beats by DJ Deirdre Zahl of Candy Shop Vintage.  The newly opened Skinny Dip is the 2nd location for owners Sara Rossi and Taylor Ivey is a new shopping concept for Charleston.  Each of their brands are represented individually so you can get a clear message of their identity.  The cool coastal vibe supports emerging designers that are based in Charleston and beyond.  You can also grab a coffee or frose from Rudi’s Cafe & Vino upstairs and chill on their outdoor deck for a break from that retail therapy.

Toni Hess opened the Charleston outpost for Drybar this past spring and the blow dry bar concept has been a huge hit in the Lowcountry.  Offering more than just a blowout, their talented stylists are masters at updos and braiding.  Whenever I show them my Pinterest inspiration they give me the upgraded version and always succeed my expectations.  I can’t wait to see the creations they come up with for the guests at The Skinny Dip  party.

Momtrepreneur, Katie Shields opened up her eco-friendly nail salon Mylk Bar in Mt. Pleasant a couple of months ago and is dominating nail game.  No more suffocating fumes when you get your mani and pedi.  The instgram-worthy wall paper and decor make you want to snap that Nailfie.  Her nail techs will be offering fun nail art at the party including this evil eye that I opted for.

Liz Martin of Charleston Weekender sure knows how to make everyday feel like the weekend.  She’ll be bringing her fun balloons from her recently opened shop Cannonbourough Collective.  Her and her partner Mimi of the Tiny Tassel opened up a boutique where you can finally get balloons downtown, and sell their wares alongside local artisans. It’s hard to believe that you had to drive off the peninsula just to get balloons for a party!

I love finding out about new brands at The Skinny Dip like this outfit from The Royal Native.  I’m officially obsessed with the line made out of African Wax Prints by the coolest surfer mom in New York – Hilary Star de Roy.  I want everything in her collection!

So mark your calendars and grab your girlfriends and join me with these fabulous ladies at The Skinny Dip on July 27th from 6-9pm!

Garden of Eden

I love it when I find a gem of a dress like this one from House of Sage.  It’s by L’atiste, one of my favorite brands that they carry and it’s only $85!  Finding a decent dress under $100 could be hard to find, but not in this shop.  Giambattista Valli actually just showed a dress strikingly similar to this one in their Paris Haute Couture show recently, more reason to get this stunner that’s a steal.

I always love admiring and trying on the estate jewelry in Croghan’s Jewel Box.  There’s nothing like the impeccable craftsmanship and detail in vintage jewelry.

With the sweltering heat these days I had to stop by Drybar Charleston for a crown braid style.  Their stylists are masters at braiding and did this in 10 minutes!  They are my go to for blowouts and intricate updos.

These beauties are from Gold Creations and they have such a great assortment of jewelry.  The basket weave ring is the perfect nod to Charleston’s heritage.

Dress by L’atiste $85 from House of Sage // 18k diamond and coral earrings $4,600, emerald and diamond ring $15,300, platinum carnelian onyx ring $25,750, platinum star sapphire ring $6,500, lapis, emerald, and diamond ring $6,900 all from Croghan’s Jewel Box // Crescent Moon Ring Gold Plate $30 , Sweetgrass Dome Ring 14k yellow gold $900, Opal and Diamond Ring 18k yellow gold $1,350, Cz Kite Ring Gold Plate $45 all from Gold Creations
