Memorial Day is just around the corner and I’m so looking forward to that 3 day weekend. A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to explore Seabrook Island and fell in love with The Beach Club. Conveniently located near Freshfields Village me and the fam did some shopping to make sure we were ready for some pool and beach action.
We stopped by Vineyard Vines to deck out the family in swimsuits. You can’t go wrong with gingham and I love the retro high waisted look. I picked up this scarf from Beija Flor to wear as a sarong, but turned it into this turban. I’m trying to grow out my bangs so this is the perfect solution for that awkward growing out phase.
Black & White Gingham Tie Front Bikini Top $65 from Vineyard Vines, Black & White High Waisted Gingham Bottom $60 from Vineyard Vines // Scarf worn as turban from Beija Flor at Freshfields Village // Sunglasses from Sunglass L.A.
Boys Marlin Out Of Water Chappy Trunks $34.99 from Vineyard Vines
Boys Pieced Chappy Trunks $55 from Vineyard Vines
My boys favorite shop in Freshfields Village is of course Wonder Works Toys. They can spend hours in there testing out all of the toys. The shop was fully stocked up on water toys and pool floats like this watermelon. Sebastian enjoyed his slice of heaven.
Sebastian was also loving this surfer girl from Wonder Works Toys. It doesn’t matter how you flip her, she always lands on her board and floats right side up.
These super light weight pants from Tina Stephens are perfect for throwing on after the beach or pool. They just opened up in in Freshfields Village and carry both their signature seamless shirts and other brands.
Follow Freshfields Village for their summer events because they always have something going on. Every Friday this summer is Music on the Green from 6-9pm, and this Friday is Java Band. They play party favorites from R&B, Hip Hop,Rock, and Motown. I know I’ll be spending a lot of time out there this summer, and I hope you get to explore the John’s Island, Kiawah, and Seabrook area too!

This past weekend I got all my Mother’s Day quality time in with the kiddos starting with the newly opened Palmetto Scent Studio at Freshfields Village. This place is not your standard candle shop, they host candle making classes that are perfect for kids, a girls night out, date night, birthday parties or a bachelorette party. Another great thing about their classes is that drop-ins are welcome so you can swing by anytime they’re open to make your custom candle.
They have so many yummy scents to choose from and it was hard to narrow it down to just 3 for our candle. You can sniff scents from their pre-made candles in everything from basil to bubble gum.
Then you get to choose from any glass or tin container you want your candle poured into. The beauty of the glass containers is that you can re-purpose it after you burn the candle down.
It’s no surprise my boys chose the sweet smelling scents that make you hungry. Mateo chose cake, whipped cream, and maple syrup. Sebastian chose bubble gum, maple syrup, and cake. My hubby Gus made the “munchies” candle which consisted of cannabis, bacon, and cake. I chose an herbal selection of basil, rosemary, and mint to break up all the desserts we’ll be inhaling.
Palmetto Scent Studio uses a soy wax and cotton wicks for a clean burn.
It probably took us longer to decide what scents we were going to mix than it did to actually make the candle.
The owners Glenda and Jeff were so helpful with the whole process and so passionate about their business. I love promoting local businesses, especially when it’s run by a husband and wife team. In a world where retail has been moving towards more online shopping it’s so nice to experience something like this at Palmetto Scent Studio and actually hang out with the owners. So give them a visit and tell them that the Curator sent you!

As a decade of being a mom quickly approaches, I look back reflecting on how much this experience has impacted me. Raising two tiny humans, hoping that I’m making the right decisions, and making it my mission that they are living the best life. Don’t get me wrong, being a mom isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a lot of hard work and frequently on the edge of losing it. But I wouldn’t trade it all for the world.
This week I’ve come across so many personal stories of mother’s who have experienced the loss of their partner, the loss of their child, abuse, breast cancer, and near death experiences. These are the living heroes. Strong women who sacrifice it all so they can provide a good life for their family. Life is precious and I never take it for granted, not for one second.
Speaking of amazing mothers, I love supporting local mompreneurs who know how to juggle it all while running a successful business. I’m wearing this dress from Style Dwell, which is owned by Christie Bishop and she runs it with her daughter Ashley by her side. They carry the cutest clothes & accessories and recently just moved into the Citadel Mall. The jewelry is from Porter Conrad, and the owner Kelly Sigg and her husband have made many trips to Bali with their son to get their jewelry custom made by the same family they’ve been working with for several years. Katie Shields of Mylk Bar, opened up Charleston’s first eco-friendly nail salon last year while she was juggling a new born. I love getting fun nail art for my gel manis in her ultra cool salon.
The other two ladies that were a part of this shoot might not have kids yet, but they love their mommas! Ashleigh Hover of Microblading Charleston just opened up last year and business has been booming. Thanks to her I don’t have to worry about filling in my eyebrows for a long time. Yes, perfectly shaped brows and I didn’t have to do anything in the morning. Thank you Ashleigh! If you’ve seen a lot of flowers popping up in my Instagram feed it’s because of Lori DeNicola of Petaloso. My talented floral designer friend can whip up a floral skirt quicker than you can say Ranunculus. Which is my new favorite flower by the way.
And the last momma shot out goes to Nicole Mickle my photographer for this shoot. I love the energy that she always brings to the shoots and her passion for her family runs deep. So lucky to work with such talented and creative women right here in Charleston!
There’s no doubt being a mom is one of the hardest jobs out there, that’s why it’s so important to pamper her with a trip to the spa. But not just any spa, Woodhouse Day Spa in Mt. Pleasant is the go to place for a luxurious escape from the daily stress of trying to juggle it all. The Charleston owner, Kimberly Powell has made it her mission to offer the best customer service with a wide variety of treatments for optimal relaxation. In addition to her Sweetgrass & Charleston Wedding candles (sold exclusively at Woodhouse Day Spa), Kim is set to launch a meditation & wellness candle line called Heron, which will include the scents Rise, Radiate & Rest. These will be available with the opening of her new downtown Charleston Woodhouse Day Spa, which is planned to open this December. Also, a very busy mother to 3 boys, she finds time to always give back to the community while cooking up a new project.
Woodhouse Day Spa offers over 70 different treatments from facials, massages, body scrubs, manis and pedis and the state of the art Vichy shower. I know it might sound overwhelming, so I’ll just share my incredibly relaxing experience. I opted for the the aromatherapy bath cure and slipped into a state of bliss. The head-to-toe ritual begins with a dry brush exfoliation and then 25 minutes of soaking in lavender bath salts.
Next up was the seasonal massage which included a mint julep and lavender shea and cocoa butter, blended with an organic honey butter serum. My skin felt super hydrated thanks to the sunflower seed oil, honey, and vitamins A,B, and E that are packed in their products as well. I was finished off with the Farmhouse Fresh Fluffy Bunny Lotion and Sunflower Honey Butter mixed together, and yes it felt as good as it sounds. The beauty of it all is that you can take home the experience by purchasing all of the the products in their retail boutique.
If you want to offer some variety you can gift the seasonal massages so mom has something to look forward to for the next escape. Also, if you spend $300 or more on a gift card you can get a curated spa gift box including a Sleep Soothing Mist, Lavender Eye Pillow, Organic Citron Green Tea Tin, Serene Bath Salts, Body Moisturizer and Pleat Soap by Voya. If you’re a last minute shopper like me, you’ll love that you can purchase their gift cards conveniently online here and customize it to make it more personal.
Wellness guru Kimberly Powell hand picked her favorite products from her boutique so mom can be pampered at home too. The Athena 7 Minute Lift reduces the appearance of sagging skin, lines, and wrinkles in 7 minutes. Give the gift of a bronze glow with Vita Liberata Rapid Tan Mousse, the rapid development technology speeds up the tanning process for a light sunkissed glow after one hour, a medium bronze result after two hours, and a deep tan after three or more hours. Certified organic botanicals and moisture locking technology nourish the skin and give 72-hour hydration. For a blissful bath pick up a jar of Red Poppy & Hemp Mineral Bath Salt. For a sweet and citrusy scent try this organic fragrance by Provence Sante Eau de Toilette Fragrance Spray.
So, if your undecided on what to give mom or what hints you want to drop for this Mother’s Day, then make it easy and give the gift of blissful relaxation at Woodhouse Day Spa. As a mom who feels like I juggle 4 jobs, an urban escape for a couple of hours is just what I need for some peace of mind and rejuvenation.
