If want to experience quintessential Charleston, then Zero George is where you want to be. If your looking to escape the everyday hustle and bustle and feel like your your transported to a far away villa without actually traveling the distance then this boutique hotel is has exactly what your looking for. It exudes southern charm, and confirms why I love my city so much.
When you walk onto the grounds you feel like you discovered a secret utopian village that has been untouched by modern society. The historical buildings that compromise Zero George date back to the 1800’s and a couple have actually travelled to the current location. The renovations and upgrades on the buildings have been done meticulously so you get the old world experience with the comforts of modern accommodations.
I had the perfect girls get away with a couple of my close friends and it was a bonafide gown-up sleep over. We were greeted at the reception desk with a glass of champagne and a smile. Then we were taken to our garden suites nestled in the back courtyard, our home away from home. They brought us a cheese plate and we caught up while we noshed up on the yummy treats in the parlor. Zero George specializes in all of the little details to make it a memorable stay. The mini fridge was filled with complimentary bottled water and Izze sodas and the bathroom wass stocked with Malin + Goetz skincare and bath products.
We were excited to indulge with dinner at Zero Restaurant because you never know what Chef Vinson Petrillo has up his sleeve. He’s an artist in the kitchen and prepares the most creative and savory plates you’ve ever tasted, turning out seasonal dishes every night. I recommend splitting the snacks and having the pre-theatre menu, you will not be disappointed. One of the quirkiest dishes was The Potted Plant which was 2 radishes buried in quinoa and homemade butter. For my main course I had the steamed bass and it surpassed my expectations.
Zero George prides themselves with being innovators by offering bespoke packages to their guests. Some of them include a cooking class with Chef Vinson Petrillo in their intimate kitchen, Pamper and PJ’s which is a spa experience and PJ’s with your BFF, a photography tour with some of my favorites – Kirk Chambers, Nickie Cutrona and Andrew Cebulka, and the Shopping Tour with me! As a guest you can book me for a few hours to take you around town to my favorite boutiques. Every shopping package has been tailored to fit each person’s needs whether their looking for handcrafted local gifts or new clothes. I’ve taken couples shopping, single ladies, and best friends who want to infuse some local wares into their wardrobe. Each time I pick up my guests from Zero George is a new adventure and new friends.
Now that I’ve done my girls getaway, I need to book a romantic weekend with my husband. Zero George is one of those places that will have a special place in my heart and I love sharing my experience.
