There’s nothing that I love more than to connect with emerging talent. Saturday night at Charleston Fashion Week I wanted to represent a few former SCAD students who are creating innovative accessories that are being sold right here in Charleston. Catie Curran creates her signature jewelry from elytra, the hardened forewings of beetles. The vibrant color can be mistaken for a man made material, but in fact it’s nature’s beauty. She is also a metalsmith who creates brass, bronze and jewelry inspired by other elements in nature such as dragonfly wings and branches. She’s sold at Maris DeHart and apparently they can’t keep her beetle wing earrings in stock.
This custom bag was made by Ellia Wang with an original water color painting printed on leather by Daniel Velasco. The good friends first met at SCAD and finally joined forces to create this beautiful bag now being sold at the Grand Bohemian Gallery. Ellia Wang‘s modern accessories are a work of art and Daniel Velasco‘s illustrations are so inspiring. They are a match made in fashion heaven.
I’m obsessed with this dress by Rachel Roy and I was excited to wear something from her since her runway show was that night at Charleston Fashion Week. She was the nicest woman and gave the best advice to the Emerging Designers during the Judge Panel discussion. Her Frida Kahlo, Mexican beachy inspired show was the perfect way to end Fashion Week and get ready for Spring!
