Gifts to Pamper them with at Woodhouse Day Spa

If your looking to pamper the ones you love then Woodhouse Day Spa is the one stop shop to treat them to.  Located off of 17 in Mt. Pleasant, this spa is an urban escape that offers over 70 treatments including facials, sleep treatments, massage therapy, wraps, scrubs, foot treatments, hand treatments, and waxings.  They also offer exclusive treatments like the Vichy Shower and Hydra Facial.  Their retail boutique also offers plenty of gift ideas from jewelry, skincare products, makeup, bags, and pj’s.

Kimberly Powell, the owner,  strives for excellence by insuring her clients have the most luxurious experience at her spa.  She’s one of the most generous philanthropists in our community and recently donated her time performing as Sandra Dee from Grease in the recent Lip Sync for Lungs benefitting the American Lung Association.  She pretty much has a 100% yes policy when it comes to donating for any local charity.  That alone makes you want to support her business and the causes she champions for.

Kimberly helped develop her candle line 1670 Charles Towne which is a luxe collection that’s handcrafted here in Charleston. The sweetgrass basket set is made by skilled basket weavers and donates proceeds to the International African American Museum. The Travel Tin Candle pictured above is a bouquet of quince blossom, champagne, jasmine petals, magnolia, tuberose and white musk.   The hand painted oyster shell dish is by Grit and Grace and for every oyster sold, 10 oyster shells are recycled.

Woodhouse Day Spa also carries other locally made products such as Maya Chia.  The organic skincare line which is made out of chia seeds has expanded their products into makeup, giving you that all natural glow.

As a little incentive Woodhouse Day Spa is offering this luxurious throw blanket ($150 value) for free when you spend $350 on gift certificates.  It’s super soft and comes in creme, dark grey, and light grey.  Scoop one up while supplies last.

The Gold Standard

‘Tis the season for endless parties and reasons to get dressed up.   Finding the perfect holiday outfit might take hours of searching, but since I’m always popping in and out of boutiques I’m here to do all of the scouting for you.  This outfit which looks like a dress is actually a two-piece crop top and wide legged pants from Magnifique Boutique on Market Street.  This shop stocks a great selection of women’s clothing and accessories at all price ranges.  Owner Onna Mack recently launched her online store so now you can shop in the comforts of home. Take advantage of their Cybermonday deal with 20% off site wide and free shipping when you use code BLACKFRIDAY at checkout.

This wine bag is the perfect hostess gift and at $22.98 you might want to scoop one up for yourself too.   You don’t want to miss out on Magnifique’s holiday party on Dec. 5th for an evening of cocktails and shopping, beats by Dj Deirdre Zahl of Candy Shop Vintage, plus giveaways including a $500 gift card! Festivities are from 5-8pm at 92 North Market Street.

These jewels are by Barracuda Moon, made with love locally by Sydney Pope.  Her ocean inspired accessories are made to layer but are just as gorgeous worn alone to make a statement.  She up-cycles sea glass and other findings with 14kt gold to create one of a kind pieces that have a touch of luxe. Sydney knows the importance of giving back and a portion of all online sales are donated to the Polaris Project, a charity devoted to ending human trafficking.  Why not give a gift that gives back this season?  Take advantage of their Cybermonday sale with 15% off with code GIVELOVE17.   Barracuda Moon will be on the move over the next couple of weeks with 3 upcoming pop-up shops including the Daniel Island Holiday Festival at Volvo Stadium on December 2nd from 11am-4pm, Ro Sham Beaux at 493 King Street on December 9th from 12-4pm, and Thrifters & Drifters at The Royal American 970 Morrison Dr. on December 17th from 12-5pm.

The sunglasses are from iconic eyewear purveyors Friedrich’s Optik at 194 King Street.  The German company has been around since 1816 and has made frames for the most influential women in the world including Jackie O. and Iris Apfel.  These frames I’m wearing are actually called the Jackie, named after the legendary Jackie O.  Visit their lower King shop for both retro and classic frames that can be worn as eyeglasses or sunglasses.

If your wondering about my glow I’m wearing Luminous Complexion Fluid in EVA by Gressa Lumiére from Wildcraft. This serum is adaptable to any skin tone and can be used on your cheeks, eye lids or lips for a quick tint.  I used it on my cheekbones for a highlighter effect.  Wildcraft is an organic skincare and makeup boutique in South Windmere in West Ashley.  I could spend hours in there trying on product and learning about all of the amazing things it does to your skin, but more about that later.  Stay tuned for more outfit and gift ideas!

The New New at Freshfields

Freshfields Village is buzzing with all of the new additions which means more reasons to keep on coming back.  Along with village veterans like The Resort Shop (where this dress is from), new businesses like Elizabeth Stuart Design, Studio 33 Kiawah, Blue Mercury, and and Fuji Restaurant have popped up over the summer.

Elizabeth Stuart Design is known in the Charleston area for her sophisticated selections in home decor, art, and accessories.  Her satellite shop in Kiawah is a curated mix of gorgeous jewelry from the likes of S Carter and cool shades by AM Eyewear (pictured here).  Her offerings are a nice price range making it easy to find gifts or splurge on yourself.

Blue Mercury was a no-brainer top open up, with no other makeup stores in the area of Kiawah and Johns Island.  This national store has shops everywhere including downtown Charleston, but this Freshfields Village location was much needed.  You can find the best makeup and skincare lines out there, and also get spa treatments like facials, waxing, and massages.  I had to try out some of their products and was so happy with the makeup application they gave me.

Another void in the area was a Japanese restaurant and our prayers have finally been answered with Fuji.  Their creative selection of sushi rolls, delicious salads, and appetizers will have you wanting to come back over and over again.  This is now on the top of my list for sushi in Charleston, and the best part is they can make any custom roll you want.  My friend Libby of Plate South and I were on a roll (pun intended) sampling everything we thought we could fit in our stomachs. If you go you have to try my favorites – Harumaki, Tuna Martini and the Avocado Salad.  As far as rolls go it just depends on how adventurous you are, but I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

If your looking for a relaxing shopping and dining experience then Freshfields Village is your answer.   Fall is always a great time to come out to the Village so follow them on Instagram to stay in the know of all of their events and happenings.

Dress by Laundry by Shelli Segal $295 from The Resort Shop // Sunglasses by AM Eyewear $465, Beaded purse by Ink + Alloy $62.50, Diamond tusk necklace by S Carter $3,545, Full pave diamond cuff by S Carter $1,370, Sterling silver wide ring by Sarah Richardson $200, Sterling silver equator ring $295, Asymetrical Iris Smokey ring $1,200, Sterling silver tripod ring by Sarah Richardson$155 all from Elizabeth Stuart Design from Freshfields Village //  Caress sandals by Corso Como from Nordstrom $119.95

Striped Possibilities

There’s a misconception that shopping local is always expensive, but there’s nothing that I love more than to find a good deal on clothes while supporting small businesses.  I make it a point to find the local shops that have the deals and this Friday I’m featuring a few on Lowcountry Live for my “Looks for Less” segment. The Ruffled LBD

That little black dress could be a dime a dozen, but this one is definitely stands out.  It’s from the online store Tobi, which offers a deep variety of clothes for an amazingly affordable price.  This little neoprene number right here was $60 and is now only $12!  I scooped up a 3 dresses and a swimsuit for under $150.  When you go through clothes like me it’s always good to have options.

I love these chalcedony earrings, cuff, and rings from Croghan’s Jewel Box.  They always have the perfect accents to top any outfit.

The Harper Clutch by Taxidermy is one of my favorite styles and this one is the ideal neutral tone to go with anything.  If your going to invest in a Taxidermy bag, it’s always good to go with the natural python.

Soleil Bodycon Dress from Tobi $12 // 18k Vermeil chalcedony earrings $165, gold plated 19k Aqua chrysoberyl ring $3,075, gold plated Solin cuff and gold plated Solin ring $115 by Elizabeth & James from Croghan’s Jewel Box // Sunglasses by Quay at Germain Dermotology // Harper Clutch by Taxidermy $895 // Similar shoes by Vince Camuto at DSW $59.95

Tres Chic

I can’t believe March is already here which means that Charleston Fashion Week is right around the corner.  5 nights of runway shows including emerging designers and local boutiques like Tres Carmen will be showing on the runway.   Tres Carmen opened up last year in Freshfields Village and more shops and restaurants are slated to open very soon, which means more reason to take that day trip out to Kiawah.  I love spending the afternoon at Freshfields Village in Kiawah to shop, eat, and just relax because it really is an escape from the hustle and bustle.

Every season Freshfields Village hosts a Sip & Stroll  where every 3rd Thursday of the month you can visit participating stores for light snacks and sips while enjoying special events, sales, and promotions inside the shops. The next one is on March 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and you can check out all of the participating stores and sales here.

This little outfit is from Tres Carmen in Freshfields Village and I’m obsessed with everything I’m wearing starting with the python purse and choker by Taxidermy. The new colors for spring are incredible, especially this sand color JW bag, it’s the new neutral.

Can we talk about these shoes?  I’ve been wearing them almost everyday since I got them and I don’t want to take them off!  They’re by Summit by White Mountain and are designed and made in Italy.  But you don’t have to be scared that they’re crazy expensive, they’re  only $148.95 from Nordstrom.  I actually discovered them on Instagram and I’m so happy to know that they not only make beautiful shoes, but there are all about sustainability. They reduce their waste, carbon, and energy output while educating their employees on environmental protection and cleaner production initiatives.

My other obsession?  My lash extensions by Becca at Simply Mitten Beauty Bar.  I hate putting on eye makeup and the time it takes me in the morning.  I’m the type of person that likes to get up and go.  Now that I have these incredibly thick and long lashes it takes me 5 minutes to get ready.  On most days I just wear my tinted Anti-Photo Aging Sunscreen by Germain Dermatology and I’m out the door!  It’s incredible what longer lashes can do.  I won’t miss the days of taking forever to get my cat-eye liner perfect, or curling my lashes, or layering on the mascara.  Now I’m Fashion Week ready without the hassle of spending time on my makeup!

Top $245, gaucho pants $275 by Nicole Miller, Rose gold flamingo earrings by Ash Hoffman$265, sunglasses by Quay $45, python choker $95 and JW mini python bag $1,295 all from Tres Carmen at Freshfields Village // “Brody” platform oxford $148.95 from Nordstrom

The Luxe Retreat & Boutique at Woodhouse Day Spa

0B0A9276

Wondering where the ultimate luxury spa getaway is in Charleston?  The Woodhouse Day Spa in Mt. Pleasant is THE place you want to get pampered.  Offering over 70 different treatments from facials, massages,  body scrubs, manis and pedis and the state of the art Vichy shower. With Valentine’s day right around the corner this is an obvious gift for your loved one or if you want to get spoiled too they’re offering seasonal packages for couples like the “Date Night” series.

0B0A9283

Other than escaping to a blissful retreat at Woodhouse, you can shop their boutique.  Owner Kimberly Powell seeks out the best skincare products and accessories while highlighting local brands.  I thought I knew almost every locally made brand out there, but I was excited to discover a few I’ve never heard of before.

0B0A9199

Deep Steep makes their natural bath and body products in Johns Island and everything is Non-GMO, Gluten-free, Vegan and Cruelty Free.  The line spans from shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, body oil, and so much more.  I can’t wait to sample all of them because the scent is heavenly!

0B0A9197

Maya Chia is one of my favorite local skincare brand, and they’re also based right here in Charleston.  Pretty much all of their products are made with chia seed oil and I am obsessed with the new highlighting serum.  I’ve been wearing it everyday on my cheekbones for that subtle glow.

0B0A9232

Other than a wide variety of skincare and beauty products to spoil yourself or that special someone, Woodhouse carries the Design Her book by local author Julianne Taylor of Taylor Burke Home.  Filled with stories of female entrepreneurs in interior design, this book is an inspirational read and beautiful collection of design.

0B0A9257 0B0A9211

This shark tooth necklace is by Foxy Fossils, local designer Casey Danielle finds real fossils all over the lowcountry and turns them into wearable accessories. Each piece is one of a kind and is incredibly affordable.  The earrings start at $29, so it’s easy to collect more than a few pieces and layer the necklaces.

0B0A9222

Kimberly Powell, has recently launched her candle line 1670 Charlestowne candle set which comes with a keepsake Sweetgrass basket. Each basket-and-candle set is hand-numbered and signed by the basket weaver and candle designers. The scent is a combination of fresh hay, cut grass, water lily, cucumber, lotus, anemone petals and blond wood. Kimberly is one of the most generous philanthropists in Charleston so it’s natural that a percentage of the sales of the  Sweetgrass-fragrance 1670 Charlestowne products are donated to charities that support Lowcountry youth culture and arts programs.

0B0A9268

She also carries Taxidermy accessories, which are an all time favorite in Charleston and beyond.  I love spreading the word on great places to shop and Woodhouse Day Spa has the perfect gifts for Valentine’s Day.  Pair that with an amazing spa experience and your partner will be forever grateful!
