Then Dogtoberfest on Saturday, October 27 (1-5 pm), will feature fun activities for your four legged friends. Hosted by the Charleston Animal Society, there will be pets available for adoption, wine tasting by FortyEight Wine Bar, live entertainment, blessing of the animals, a pet costume contest at 3 p.m., and exciting prizes and giveaways!
If your craving for some amazing sushi then Fuji is your place. When I dine out I like eating dishes I know I can’t make at home and this over the top platter of sushi is something I will never whip up myself.
Fuji is one of my favorite places to eat sushi because they are so creative with their dishes, everything is super fresh, and everything tastes as good as it looks. Other than their spectacular rolls they serve hibachi, ramen noodles, poke bowls, and apps like this avocado dream and spicy tuna wontons.
So what are you waiting for? Freshfields Village is so worth the trip out to Kiawah for a relaxing day of of shopping, fun, and eating your heart out.

As a decade of being a mom quickly approaches, I look back reflecting on how much this experience has impacted me. Raising two tiny humans, hoping that I’m making the right decisions, and making it my mission that they are living the best life. Don’t get me wrong, being a mom isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a lot of hard work and frequently on the edge of losing it. But I wouldn’t trade it all for the world.
This week I’ve come across so many personal stories of mother’s who have experienced the loss of their partner, the loss of their child, abuse, breast cancer, and near death experiences. These are the living heroes. Strong women who sacrifice it all so they can provide a good life for their family. Life is precious and I never take it for granted, not for one second.
Speaking of amazing mothers, I love supporting local mompreneurs who know how to juggle it all while running a successful business. I’m wearing this dress from Style Dwell, which is owned by Christie Bishop and she runs it with her daughter Ashley by her side. They carry the cutest clothes & accessories and recently just moved into the Citadel Mall. The jewelry is from Porter Conrad, and the owner Kelly Sigg and her husband have made many trips to Bali with their son to get their jewelry custom made by the same family they’ve been working with for several years. Katie Shields of Mylk Bar, opened up Charleston’s first eco-friendly nail salon last year while she was juggling a new born. I love getting fun nail art for my gel manis in her ultra cool salon.
The other two ladies that were a part of this shoot might not have kids yet, but they love their mommas! Ashleigh Hover of Microblading Charleston just opened up last year and business has been booming. Thanks to her I don’t have to worry about filling in my eyebrows for a long time. Yes, perfectly shaped brows and I didn’t have to do anything in the morning. Thank you Ashleigh! If you’ve seen a lot of flowers popping up in my Instagram feed it’s because of Lori DeNicola of Petaloso. My talented floral designer friend can whip up a floral skirt quicker than you can say Ranunculus. Which is my new favorite flower by the way.
And the last momma shot out goes to Nicole Mickle my photographer for this shoot. I love the energy that she always brings to the shoots and her passion for her family runs deep. So lucky to work with such talented and creative women right here in Charleston!
There’s no doubt being a mom is one of the hardest jobs out there, that’s why it’s so important to pamper her with a trip to the spa. But not just any spa, Woodhouse Day Spa in Mt. Pleasant is the go to place for a luxurious escape from the daily stress of trying to juggle it all. The Charleston owner, Kimberly Powell has made it her mission to offer the best customer service with a wide variety of treatments for optimal relaxation. In addition to her Sweetgrass & Charleston Wedding candles (sold exclusively at Woodhouse Day Spa), Kim is set to launch a meditation & wellness candle line called Heron, which will include the scents Rise, Radiate & Rest. These will be available with the opening of her new downtown Charleston Woodhouse Day Spa, which is planned to open this December. Also, a very busy mother to 3 boys, she finds time to always give back to the community while cooking up a new project.
Woodhouse Day Spa offers over 70 different treatments from facials, massages, body scrubs, manis and pedis and the state of the art Vichy shower. I know it might sound overwhelming, so I’ll just share my incredibly relaxing experience. I opted for the the aromatherapy bath cure and slipped into a state of bliss. The head-to-toe ritual begins with a dry brush exfoliation and then 25 minutes of soaking in lavender bath salts.
Next up was the seasonal massage which included a mint julep and lavender shea and cocoa butter, blended with an organic honey butter serum. My skin felt super hydrated thanks to the sunflower seed oil, honey, and vitamins A,B, and E that are packed in their products as well. I was finished off with the Farmhouse Fresh Fluffy Bunny Lotion and Sunflower Honey Butter mixed together, and yes it felt as good as it sounds. The beauty of it all is that you can take home the experience by purchasing all of the the products in their retail boutique.
If you want to offer some variety you can gift the seasonal massages so mom has something to look forward to for the next escape. Also, if you spend $300 or more on a gift card you can get a curated spa gift box including a Sleep Soothing Mist, Lavender Eye Pillow, Organic Citron Green Tea Tin, Serene Bath Salts, Body Moisturizer and Pleat Soap by Voya. If you’re a last minute shopper like me, you’ll love that you can purchase their gift cards conveniently online here and customize it to make it more personal.
Wellness guru Kimberly Powell hand picked her favorite products from her boutique so mom can be pampered at home too. The Athena 7 Minute Lift reduces the appearance of sagging skin, lines, and wrinkles in 7 minutes. Give the gift of a bronze glow with Vita Liberata Rapid Tan Mousse, the rapid development technology speeds up the tanning process for a light sunkissed glow after one hour, a medium bronze result after two hours, and a deep tan after three or more hours. Certified organic botanicals and moisture locking technology nourish the skin and give 72-hour hydration. For a blissful bath pick up a jar of Red Poppy & Hemp Mineral Bath Salt. For a sweet and citrusy scent try this organic fragrance by Provence Sante Eau de Toilette Fragrance Spray.
So, if your undecided on what to give mom or what hints you want to drop for this Mother’s Day, then make it easy and give the gift of blissful relaxation at Woodhouse Day Spa. As a mom who feels like I juggle 4 jobs, an urban escape for a couple of hours is just what I need for some peace of mind and rejuvenation. Also, tune into Lowcountry Live this Friday for more details and how you could win an aromatherapy bath and seasonal massage at Woodhouse Day Spa.

Kimberly Powell, the owner, strives for excellence by insuring her clients have the most luxurious experience at her spa. She’s one of the most generous philanthropists in our community and recently donated her time performing as Sandra Dee from Grease in the recent Lip Sync for Lungs benefitting the American Lung Association. She pretty much has a 100% yes policy when it comes to donating for any local charity. That alone makes you want to support her business and the causes she champions for.
Kimberly helped develop her candle line 1670 Charles Towne which is a luxe collection that’s handcrafted here in Charleston. Freshfields Village is buzzing with all of the new additions which means more reasons to keep on coming back. Along with village veterans like The Resort Shop (where this dress is from), new businesses like Elizabeth Stuart Design, Studio 33 Kiawah, Blue Mercury, and and Fuji Restaurant have popped up over the summer.
Elizabeth Stuart Design is known in the Charleston area for her sophisticated selections in home decor, art, and accessories. Her satellite shop in Kiawah is a curated mix of gorgeous jewelry from the likes of S Carter and cool shades by AM Eyewear (pictured here). Her offerings are a nice price range making it easy to find gifts or splurge on yourself.
Blue Mercury was a no-brainer top open up, with no other makeup stores in the area of Kiawah and Johns Island. This national store has shops everywhere including downtown Charleston, but this Freshfields Village location was much needed. You can find the best makeup and skincare lines out there, and also get spa treatments like facials, waxing, and massages. I had to try out some of their products and was so happy with the makeup application they gave me.
Another void in the area was a Japanese restaurant and our prayers have finally been answered with Fuji. Their creative selection of sushi rolls, delicious salads, and appetizers will have you wanting to come back over and over again. This is now on the top of my list for sushi in Charleston, and the best part is they can make any custom roll you want. My friend Libby of Plate South and I were on a roll (pun intended) sampling everything we thought we could fit in our stomachs. If you go you have to try my favorites – Harumaki, Tuna Martini and the Avocado Salad. As far as rolls go it just depends on how adventurous you are, but I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
If your looking for a relaxing shopping and dining experience then Freshfields Village is your answer. Fall is always a great time to come out to the Village so follow them on Instagram to stay in the know of all of their events and happenings.
