Scene at the CFW Bridal Show

The Bridal show at Charleston Fashion Week is the sleeper hit of the whole week.  The tent is transformed into a romantic fantasy complete with fresh flowers, drinks flowing, yummy apps, and wedding vendors showing off their wares.

The highlight this year was the surprise proposal of my friend and photographer Clifford Pate to his girlfriend Lauren Miller.  Their romance started last year at Fashion Week, and a runway proposal seemed like the perfect setting to commemorate their 1 year anniversary. The planning was in the works for the past few months and Melissa Bigner, the editor at Charleston Weddings Magazine, made sure the engagement went off without a hitch.  Clifford thought of every detail and had a custom python ring box made by Taxidermy.  You can say Clifford and Lauren were a match made in Charleston Fashion Week heaven.

Local Love

Locally fueled couple Jordan Amaker and Marcus Amaker are the subject of today’s beautifully staged wedding reception at Holy City Brewing Company.  They officially tied the knot last year, but happily obliged when I approached them about posing for my shoot with event planners The Event Cooperative.

Marcus Amaker, local renaissance man about town is a creative jack of all trades.  Yes, Marcus does it all from graphic/web design, videography, music, and most famously known for his poetry and spoken word.  This is what sparked Jordan’s attraction, and she says the rest is history. Jordan Amaker is the Director of Marketing and Communications for Lowcountry Local First, a Charleston based organization that advocates locally owned businesses.   Both are very invested in their local community and each other of course.

The beautiful wedding design and floral arrangements were by Maryann Hoyt and Madison Weissinger assisted by Courtney Habberstad of The Event Cooperative.  No soiree is too big or small for this boutique event planning company whose clientele includes Charleston Magazine, Charleston Fashion Week,  Belk, Kulture Klash, and countless weddings.  Their vision of a rustic wedding set in the Holy City Brewing Company came to life seamlessly and their table settings and floral design were magical.

Jordan wears a dress by Lazaro and bracelet from Gown Boutique Charleston, earrings by Lulu Frost and sapphire and diamond ring from Croghan’s Jewel Box.  Marcus wears clothing from Worn, pocket square and bowtie by Brinko Ties.

The Living Dress with Miele Events

I’m kicking off of 2016 with one of my favorite shoots and collaborations from 2015 with Miele Events.  What I love most about my job is being able to create beautiful images with an amazing team of people.  This shoot was extra special because Lori DeNicola and Toni Reale of Miele Events already had a master plan of creating a dress made entirely out of plants. The upper portion of the dress was made out of banana leaves and the bottom was made out of Iris flowers.  My other favorite part of the shoot?  Getting to pose next to the sweet vintage 1957 Chevy by Lowcountry Valet + Shuttle.

When Lori, who also happens to be my yoga teacher, asked me to wear the dress I asked her – “Don’t you want to use a real model?”  Now, I’m so glad I yes to the dress, because it was such an honor to wear!!!

With so many event planning companies in Charleston, what sets Miele Events apart?  Lori and Toni produce stunning events and floral arrangements with an eco-conscious mind by using sustainable materials and limiting their waste.  I’m so happy I had the opportunity to collaborate with them and bring in my glam squad – Lauren Sykes Photography, Mac Does Hair who also did an amazing makeup job, and my trusty assistant Quinton Stewart.

A special thanks to  Shoes on King  for the Kate Spade heels and clutch,  Bridals by Jodi for the bird cage veil, and North Charleston Waterfront Park for letting us shoot in front of one of their historical houses.
