Merry & Bright on Upper King

With all of the holiday parties this season it might seem hard to navigate.  Well I have an easy solution – why not shop for your Christmas gifts while you attend the party?  There’s a few events happening over the next couple of weeks in the Upper King Street area that are worth popping in for.   This dress which is only $58 is from Dandy Boutique on 43 John Street.    Their annual Christmas party is on December 15th from 4-8pm and they’re celebrating with sweets from Lu Lu’s Bakery, store wide sales, and a GIVEAWAY worth $350!  The vintage earrings are from Candy Shop Vintage on 9 Cannon Street.  They’re having their Holiday Sip ‘N Shop this Friday from 5-8pm with cocktails, treats from Sugar Bakeshop, free hair braiding from Olivia Banks, and so much more!

Mitchell Hill is having their annual Popcorn Garland party at 438 King Street this Thursday from 5-9pm.    The group show featuring the work of Mitchell Hill resident + guest artists are under $500, unique gifts that are one of a kind.  This lifestyle boutique showcases the most beautiful and eye-catching art you can find in Charleston.  The gallery space is the perfect backdrop to highlight all of the gorgeous furniture, lighting, and home accessories.   I love this painting by Lisa Shimko who is a local artist that has been supported by the gallery from the beginning.  Here are some of my favorite finds at Mitchell Hill that are the perfect gifts.

The Gold Standard

‘Tis the season for endless parties and reasons to get dressed up.   Finding the perfect holiday outfit might take hours of searching, but since I’m always popping in and out of boutiques I’m here to do all of the scouting for you.  This outfit which looks like a dress is actually a two-piece crop top and wide legged pants from Magnifique Boutique on Market Street.  This shop stocks a great selection of women’s clothing and accessories at all price ranges.  Owner Onna Mack recently launched her online store so now you can shop in the comforts of home. Take advantage of their Cybermonday deal with 20% off site wide and free shipping when you use code BLACKFRIDAY at checkout.

This wine bag is the perfect hostess gift and at $22.98 you might want to scoop one up for yourself too.   You don’t want to miss out on Magnifique’s holiday party on Dec. 5th for an evening of cocktails and shopping, beats by Dj Deirdre Zahl of Candy Shop Vintage, plus giveaways including a $500 gift card! Festivities are from 5-8pm at 92 North Market Street.

These jewels are by Barracuda Moon, made with love locally by Sydney Pope.  Her ocean inspired accessories are made to layer but are just as gorgeous worn alone to make a statement.  She up-cycles sea glass and other findings with 14kt gold to create one of a kind pieces that have a touch of luxe. Sydney knows the importance of giving back and a portion of all online sales are donated to the Polaris Project, a charity devoted to ending human trafficking.  Why not give a gift that gives back this season?  Take advantage of their Cybermonday sale with 15% off with code GIVELOVE17.   Barracuda Moon will be on the move over the next couple of weeks with 3 upcoming pop-up shops including the Daniel Island Holiday Festival at Volvo Stadium on December 2nd from 11am-4pm, Ro Sham Beaux at 493 King Street on December 9th from 12-4pm, and Thrifters & Drifters at The Royal American 970 Morrison Dr. on December 17th from 12-5pm.

The sunglasses are from iconic eyewear purveyors Friedrich’s Optik at 194 King Street.  The German company has been around since 1816 and has made frames for the most influential women in the world including Jackie O. and Iris Apfel.  These frames I’m wearing are actually called the Jackie, named after the legendary Jackie O.  Visit their lower King shop for both retro and classic frames that can be worn as eyeglasses or sunglasses.

If your wondering about my glow I’m wearing Luminous Complexion Fluid in EVA by Gressa Lumiére from Wildcraft. This serum is adaptable to any skin tone and can be used on your cheeks, eye lids or lips for a quick tint.  I used it on my cheekbones for a highlighter effect.  Wildcraft is an organic skincare and makeup boutique in South Windmere in West Ashley.  I could spend hours in there trying on product and learning about all of the amazing things it does to your skin, but more about that later.  Stay tuned for more outfit and gift ideas!

From Charleston with Love

There’s no doubt that Charleston is one of the most romantic cities in the world.  It’s easy to get enchanted by it’s old world charm and beauty.  I recently did a Valentine’s Day gift idea segment on Lowcountry Live and I discovered some local businesses that would contribute to a romantic experience whether your a local or visiting town.

Wonder what’s it’s like to live in a beach house on Folly or Isle of Palms, or a beautifully restored home downtown?  Luxury Simplified Retreats offers posh accommodations by way of grand homes, villas, and condos.  One of their properties is this historical house on Spring Street downtown that was formerly owned by Thomas Mayhem Pinckney. He was a notable African-American craftsman who played an integral part in the preservation development in Charleston.

The top that I’m wearing is actually a layered 2 piece sold together at  Maris DeHart.  It’s got that 90’s vibe with a modern day twist. You can always find emerging accessory brands at Maris DeHart, and this watch and earrings are no exception. The watch is by Berg & Betts, and they make their leather straps out of scraps repurposed from luxury accessory brands.   The earrings are by Larissa Loden who also upcycles unwanted pieces to create something new.  With average prices of $35, it’s a no brainer to scoop up something for you or as a gift for someone special.

This beautiful bouquet by Frampton’s Flowers will light up any room.  The 50-year old business is getting a new life by offering special arrangements for weddings and events. Who doesn’t love fresh flowers?

The Luxe Retreat & Boutique at Woodhouse Day Spa

Wondering where the ultimate luxury spa getaway is in Charleston?  The Woodhouse Day Spa in Mt. Pleasant is THE place you want to get pampered.  Offering over 70 different treatments from facials, massages,  body scrubs, manis and pedis and the state of the art Vichy shower. With Valentine’s day right around the corner this is an obvious gift for your loved one or if you want to get spoiled too they’re offering seasonal packages for couples like the “Date Night” series.

Other than escaping to a blissful retreat at Woodhouse, you can shop their boutique.  Owner Kimberly Powell seeks out the best skincare products and accessories while highlighting local brands.  I thought I knew almost every locally made brand out there, but I was excited to discover a few I’ve never heard of before.

Deep Steep makes their natural bath and body products in Johns Island and everything is Non-GMO, Gluten-free, Vegan and Cruelty Free.  The line spans from shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, body oil, and so much more.  I can’t wait to sample all of them because the scent is heavenly!

Maya Chia is one of my favorite local skincare brand, and they’re also based right here in Charleston.  Pretty much all of their products are made with chia seed oil and I am obsessed with the new highlighting serum.  I’ve been wearing it everyday on my cheekbones for that subtle glow.

Other than a wide variety of skincare and beauty products to spoil yourself or that special someone, Woodhouse carries the Design Her book by local author Julianne Taylor of Taylor Burke Home.  Filled with stories of female entrepreneurs in interior design, this book is an inspirational read and beautiful collection of design.

This shark tooth necklace is by Foxy Fossils, local designer Casey Danielle finds real fossils all over the lowcountry and turns them into wearable accessories. Each piece is one of a kind and is incredibly affordable.  The earrings start at $29, so it’s easy to collect more than a few pieces and layer the necklaces.

Kimberly Powell, has recently launched her candle line 1670 Charlestowne candle set which comes with a keepsake Sweetgrass basket. Each basket-and-candle set is hand-numbered and signed by the basket weaver and candle designers. The scent is a combination of fresh hay, cut grass, water lily, cucumber, lotus, anemone petals and blond wood. Kimberly is one of the most generous philanthropists in Charleston so it’s natural that a percentage of the sales of the  Sweetgrass-fragrance 1670 Charlestowne products are donated to charities that support Lowcountry youth culture and arts programs.

She also carries Taxidermy accessories, which are an all time favorite in Charleston and beyond.  I love spreading the word on great places to shop and Woodhouse Day Spa has the perfect gifts for Valentine’s Day.  Pair that with an amazing spa experience and your partner will be forever grateful!
