Brackish Bow Ties is the originator of the feathered bow tie and it all started out of necessity for the founders Ben Ross and Jeff Plotner. Not wanting to settle for mediocracy, Ben handcrafted a set of turkey feather bow ties for his groomsmen for his wedding in 2007. Almost 10 years later with one of his groomsman Jeff, the partners have created an empire of feathered accessories that have made a global impact. With their headquarters and production in Charleston, they employ 50 artisans and production assistants who painstakingly make each tie, cummerbund, and pin to perfection. They have since expanded their turkey feathers to an exotic ray of colors using peacock, guinea, rooster, and pheasant. Each tie is a work of sustainable art and one of a kind.
As well as online you can shop them locally at Gwynn’s of Mt. Pleasant , Charleston Tuxedo, Grady Ervin & Co., Grand Bohemian Hotel , and Charleston Preservation Society. From humble beginnings to selling at national retailers such as Neiman Marcus and the legendary London department store Harrods, Brackish Bow Ties is ready to make men look more dapper one feather at a time.

I’m so excited to partner up with Lilla P over the weekend for an Instagram takeover! Follow me here to see some of my favorite spots in Charleston. The owner Pauline Nakios of Lilla P is a Charleston native so I thought it would be great to introduce the new Charleston that is enjoyed by both locals and visitors. Her clothing line is sold to more than a few shops around town, but people are still surprised to find out that it’s designed by a local. I could totally live in Lilla P all day because it’s comfortable, effortless, and chic all at the same time.
The first stop was at Zero George, the quaint but luxury boutique hotel where you can experience that quintessential Charleston vibe. Tucked away on George Street near East Bay, the historic cluster of houses have posh rooms that make you feel like you’ve totally escaped from the hustle and bustle. They also have these cute bikes for their guests, which are the best way to tour the city. If your a foodie, then the Zero George Cafe and Bar is on the top of my list for a culinary experience that’s always top notch. Chef Vinson Petrillo also offers cooking classes if you want to take that experience home. They also offer other unique experiences such as photography lessons, sunset harbor excursions, and even a curated shopping tour with me! That’s right, I take the guests to some of my favorite local shops that are sometimes off the beaten path. What better way to experience a city than to shop like a local.
So follow along to see where I take you next on the #LillaPLocal takeover!
