Keeping it Fresh at Freshfields

Kiawah is pretty hopping these days thanks to Freshfields Village. The shopping and dining destination is also a venue for fun outdoor events such as car shows, movies, live music, and a Sip and Stroll that is happening every 3rd Thursday in October, November, and December.

It seems like a new shop is opening every other month and Freshfield’s newest additions are a perfect compliment to their existing boutiques.  Women’s clothing boutiques like Tres Carmen, Scout & Molly’s, Dolittle’s for the pets, and preppy purveyor Vineyard Vines for the whole family are the new stores that are giving people more of a reason to drive out to Kiawah to shop.

Some of the other boutiques like J. McLaughlin are established brands that have stores across the U.S.  I love this navy dress that I’m wearing from there, it’s the perfect summer to fall piece that I can layer when the temps cool off.  The jewelry is by Peyton William, a jewelry store by designer Gabrielle Egan who opened her Kiawah outpost a couple of years ago to expand her downtown reach. The shoes and bag are from Holly & Brooks, an accessory shop that always has something for everyone.

A trip out to Freshfields Village wouldn’t be complete without a meal at La Tela Pizzeria. This place is worth the drive just to come out to eat there.  Their home made pastas and mouthwatering pizzas are some artisanal goodness that can’t be duplicated.  Being located on Kiawah, they source their vegetables right from local John’s Island farmers for the freshest ingredients you can get.  And the service is always top notch!

My go to dishes are the Warm Butternut Squash Salad and the Eggplant Pizza, which is beyond when you top it with the homemade tomato sauce.  This time around I had to try the mussels with the pesto alfredo sauce that was made to dip bread in.

So if your looking to escape the hustle and bustle, Freshfields Village is your answer.  Spend the day or just a few hours to get your food and shop on!
