Some of you might have heard of the iconic hit show “Golden Girls” that aired on TV in the mid 80’s and early 90’s. The show was based on 4 mature women living together in Miami experiencing the joys and angst of their golden years. For me it brings back sweet childhood memories of watching it religiously with my Grandma Rose. Other than the funny story lines and the sexual innuendos that I missed, I totally got the message. Friendship and sisterhood is something sacred we are privileged to share as women. As a young girl it didn’t matter that these women were 60 + years older than me. Their humor and style was something I would aspire to. Other than their great personal style, their Floridian abode is something that is still trending today. It was so much fun reimagining the Golden Girls in 2019 with 3 ladies that I admire for this shoot.

My partner in crime and hype girl Liz Martin of The Charleston Weekender came up with the fun idea and it was the perfect fit for our Curated Weekend collaboration. Not only is she a great friend, but she has been a sounding board for my business. It’s priceless when you have someone like that in your corner. We just spent a week in Palm Springs together for Alt Summit living our best Golden Girls life. It’s always an adventure with her!

I loved the distinct personalities of each Golden Girl. Each of us took on the role of each of the girls. I played Blanche because her wardrobe was to die for, she loved to indulge, made bold choices, and was uber confident.

Duolan Li is one of those women that people are naturally drawn to because of her big heart, great energy, and unique style. I first met her at her restaurant Xiao Bao Biscuit and was instantly intrigued. Other than both of us being former New Yorkers and our love of music, we love sharing our Asian heritage. We are “Crazy Real Asians”. She also introduced me to the digital side of DJing and I love playing with her and our friend Samira. Her other restaurant Tu is one of the most stylish eateries in town and now serves my favorite food – Indian. She is playing Rose because of her big heart and quirky style.

Danielle Fabrega of The Town Serif is one of the most creative people I know. You might have seen her beautiful hand lettered stationary and gift products around town. She loves to share her calligraphy and brush lettering skills at various local boutiques including Liz’s shop Cannonborough Collective. My Grandmother taught me the importance of a thank you card so of course I love this Golden Girls card that Danielle designed. She is embodying Dorothy in this blush duster and pants. Dorothy was definitely the boss lady of the group.

I love the mix of boho chic merchandise from Celadon. The buyers scour the world for treasures for the home. These peacock chairs remind me of the Philippines, and I definitely had one of these growing up in my house. They also carry beautiful and unique jewelry at affordable prices. It’s my go to place for gifts when I’m in Mt. Pleasant.

Whenever I’m at an event and Hamby is catering it I know I’m going to have a good time. They prepared a healthy plant based menu for us that I’m still dreaming about. They recently opened up their take out cafe in West Ashley on St. Andrews Blvd. so they could share the same quality of food to the masses.

We are so excited to also have this shoot featured in Charleston Weddings Magazine this month. Me and Liz give tips on how to host a post wedding luncheon for your best gal pals. Big props to Julie Livingston Photography for going above and beyond to produce these gorgeous photos. She even used film! Also, thank you to Keely Laughlin, another talented photographer who assisted us on propping this shoot.
